Swimming is an invigorating, low-impact workout and a healthy hobby that can last a lifetime. The benefits of swimming are practically endless, and a crucial life-saving skill that everyone should learn. As the national leader in swimming instruction, the Y is the perfect place to find your swim lesson.

Group swim lessons are packaged bystages in sessions of six or eight classes and are 30 minutes long. Registration opens seasonally. Sign up for a session, see tips for registering, andread answers to frequently asked questions below.

Swim Starters

Swimmers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences, while adults learn about water safety.

Stages: A and B
Ages:6 months-3years, with adult

Swim Basics

Swimmers become comfortable and confident in the water by practicing safe water habits, engaging in underwater exploration, and learning how to swim to safety if they fall into a body of water.

Stages: 1-3
Ages: 3-12 years

Swim Strokes

Having mastered the fundamentals, swimmers learn additional water safety skills and build stroke techniques for front crawl, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke.

Stages: 4-6
Ages:3-12 years

Swim Pathways

The competition, leadership, and recreation pathways are specialized tracks after completing all swim lesson stages. Build endurance before joining swim teams, try out water sports, or build skills for future water careers.

Ages: 6-21

Teen and Adult

Teen and Adult swim lessons encompass swim lesson stages 1-6. The first day of class includes assessing current skills and comfort in the water for appropriate progressive instruction ranging from swim basics to swim strokes.

Registration for group swim lessons opens on a seasonal timeline, so we suggest you set a reminder to sign up on the first day to ensure you get your spot.

YMCA members enjoy priority registration and discounted rates for swimming programs. Registration opens to community members seven days after opening to Y members.

How long are group swim lessons?

Lessons will be offered for 30 minutes in length once or twice a week. Fees will adjust based upon total number of classes offered in a session.

What about private swim lessons?

Private swim lessons open for registration monthly on the 15th at 6:00 am for Y members, or the 22nd at 6:00 am for Community members for the following month of lessons.Learn more here >>

Do I have to be a YMCA member to participate?

No, swim lessons are open to both Y members and Community members.

As a member of the Y, you have the benefit of a priority registration window and reduced fees.
