The recommended interval for changing the timing belt is in the owner's manual. Generally, this is every 60,000 miles. Charlie P.S. I found the data on the internet and, it is indeed 60,000 miles.

SOURCE: how to change a serpentine belt
You sent the additional question in the Solution portion of the other original posting...I just happened to stumble upon it when you rated me a "2" out of "4" on the original Posting/Question. A "2" is not good for my 94% Rating! Again: Let me know if this helped you, or if you have any additional information or questions. Feel Free to contact me at FixYa.com! And please don't use a "2". And yes you may change your original Rating from 2 to 4 if you wish....
As far as step-by-step:
The Tensioner Pulleys have two (2) types:
1. If it has an Adjustment Nut located near it: Loosen (counterclockwise) the nut. You will see the Pulley and Belt moving, loosening the belt.
2. The other type of Tensioner is an Automatic Tensioner. The standard rule with these is to move the Tensioner Pulley (it has a strong spring keeping it in place) in the direction of:
(a) Away from the Belt (contact with the Pulley portion).
(b) Towards the open area of the Pulley = towards the direction where the Belt is not iin contact with the Pulley.

SOURCE: How do change the serpentine belt on a 2005 Kia
There is a tensioner pulley that has a nut in the middle of it, loosen that nut and there is a tensioner bolt that when you loosen it, it slides the pulley away from the belt to replace it.

Inspection
Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. All worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced immediately.
Removal & Installation
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Rotate the auto tensioner clockwise to release tension, then remove the drive belt.
To install:
- Install drive belt (A). Route the belt over the components in the following order: Crankshaft pulley - A/C pulley - idler pulley - generator pulley - water pump pulley - P/S pump pulley - tensioner pulley.
- Rotate auto tensioner arm in the counter-clockwise moving auto tensioner pulley bolt with wrench.
- After putting belt on auto tensioner pulley, release the auto tensioner pulley slowly.

Click on the following free, direct Link. It has the Serpentine Belt Diagrams you will need.
On the Serpentine Belt: Scroll down the Link Page to Diagram G00323207, it shows the Tensioner.
1. Loosen the Pulley Lock Nut - identified as "A"
2. Loosen the Adjustment Bolt - identified as "B"
3. The Tensioner Pulley should move up and slightly to the left, loosening the belt enough to remove.
Installation is the reverse of the above.
Note on Diagram G00323206 the deflection tolerance at the 22 lbs pressure on the belt.

It's normal for belts to loosen up a little after installation. I'd check the belt and re-tighten until there's no slack. A slipping belt would certainly cause the issue you have. Hope this answers your question. Best of luck!
