Elden Ring: 12 Best Mage Armor Sets (2024)

Perhaps more than any other FromSoftware game, opting for a mage build in Elden Ring is likely one of the best entry points for newer players. It allows you to hurl powerful spells at a distance, often making short work of your enemies before they lay a hand on you.

All that power has its downsides, as the armor often offers little to no protection while out exploring in the Lands Between. While not the strongest or most impressive-looking attire in Elden Ring, many of the game’s mage armor sets offer you a variety of powerful perks and stat boosts worth keeping an eye out for.

12 Queen Of The Full Moon Set

• Location: Purchased from Enia at the Roundtable Hold after defeating Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon.

This decently powerful light armor set can be acquired after defeating the Legend boss Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon at the Raya Lucaria Academy. The set is worn by the Queen herself, and with its boost to Intelligence scaling, you can see why.

As with most enemies in Elden Ring, the boss fight is no cakewalk and has a particularly challenging second phase. After taking her out, you can purchase the set from Enia for a steep 31,000 runes at the Roundtable Hold.

11 Alberich’s Set

• Location: The main hall in Leyndell, Royal Capital.

Although a little build-specific, Alberich’s set is undoubtedly the armor of choice for those opting to use Aberrant sorceries. Aberrant spells scale with Faith rather than Intelligence, which makes it all the more appealing for Faith users.

Each armor piece gives a welcome six percent buff for all Aberrant sorceries, of which there are only two: Briars of Sin and Briars of Punishment. They look very impressive, though are unfortunately quite hard to pull off mid-fight. But hey, the hat is appropriately pointy — look at that!

10 Lazuli Sorcerer Set

• Location: Raya Lucaria Academy.

The Lazuli Sorcerer set can be found at Raya Lucaria Academy and can be acquired by killing a variety of enemies roaming around the grounds and interiors of the magical school.

It can be a bit of a grind getting each piece, but is more than worth it for Int/Dex focused builds. There are four pieces to the set, but what you’re probably looking for is the Lazuli Glintstone Crown.

9 Carian Knight Armor Set

• Location: Near the Church of Cuckoo Site of Grace at the Raya Lucaria Academy.

Magic users that are seeking a bit more protection than the raggedy fabrics that sorcerer's attire usually provides should look no further than the Carian Knight set.

A lot heftier than what typical mages would be used to, it’s one of the few medium-weight armors that are suitable for magic users. It offers lots of elemental and physical damage resistance, which allows for much more up-close-and-personal combat encounters. With all its opulent shiny jewels and chains, it’s also a great piece of fashion for would-be spellswords.

8 Raya Lucarian Sorcerer Set

• Location: Various at Raya Lucaria Academy.

The Raya Lucarian Sorcerer set has the unique feature of being able to choose between four very powerful “Burger King” crowns that each come with a unique and powerful bonus. The Karolos Glintstone Crown is dropped by a Crystallized Crab outside the Debate Parlor in the academy courtyard and boosts Intelligence by three and decreases Stamina by nine percent. The Olivinus Glintstone Crownboosts Intelligence by three and decreases HP by ten percent and can be found behind an illusory wall near the academy’s Schoolhouse Classroom.

The Witch’s Glintstone Crown is rewarded at the end of Sellen’s questline and boosts Intelligence and Arcane by three, but decreases Stamina by 18 percent. By far the best of the bunch is the Twinsage Glinstone Crown, which gives a huge six levels to Intelligence, at the cost of a nine percent reduction to Stamina and HP. Early on till about mid-game, this trade is more than worth the extra power.

7 Errant Sorcerer Set

• Location: Hermit Village in Mt. Gelmir

Another mage set, another “Burger King” styled helmet. The Errant Sorcerer armor can be found on two corpses while exploring the Hermit Village on Mt. Gelmir, and is a brilliant choice for hybrid magic users.

One of the armor’s most appealing features is the two-point buff to Intelligence and Endurance that is granted by the Hierodas Glintstone Crown. Those two extra points in Endurance will allow you to experiment and wear slightly heavier set armor in the game, at the cost of a little FP.

6 Spellblade Set

• Location: Dropped by Sorcerer Rogier in the Roundtable Hold.

In regard to fashion and roleplay, it’ll be hard to beat the Spellblade set. Dropped by Sorcerer Rogier in the Roundtable Hold after Ranni’s very lengthy questline, it’ll give you a nice buff (two percent per piece) to all weapon arts that deal magic damage.

This pairs particularly well with the powerful Ashes of War from the Sword of Night and Flame and Moonveil.

5 Battlemage Set

• Location: Dropped by Battlemages in East/West Windmill Pasture.

The Battlemage set’s Haima Glintstone Crown gives a nice boost to both Intelligence and Strength (at the cost of some of that precious FP), allowing for increased build diversity and weapon experimentation.

Despite what its name may suggest, the armor itself is pretty flimsy and lightweight, which opens up the possibility for you to try out some heavier weapons you may otherwise have missed. All four pieces of the set can be gathered by defeating (you guessed it) Battlemages over at East and West Windmill Pasture.

4 Snow Witch Set

• Location: Renna’s Rise, Carian Manor

The Snow Witch set grants a generous ten percent bonus to all cold sorceries in the game and is the best pick for any budding frost mage. In reality, it’s only the fancy-looking hat that will grant you this powerful boon, but the rest of the white robes look so good, it’d be rude not to wear them.

Cold sorceries are useful due to their high damage and the chance of inflicting frostbite. Rocking this fashionable attire will increase the damage of Ranni’s Dark Moon, Adula’s Moonblade and Glintstone Icecrag, to name a few. It can be found at the top of Renna’s Rise while progressing Renna’s questline.

3 Preceptor’s Set

• Location: Seluvis’ Rise.

Despite being the robes of choice of one of the most obnoxiously rude NPCs in the game, you can’t deny the sheer style of the Preceptor’s set. Its alluringly cool masked hat will net you a nice buff to Mind — important for increasing your FP pool. The cost to stamina is very small and easy to work around.

If you want it, you’ll have to pick up Seluvis’ ball bearing by waiting until the end of Ranni’s questline, or by killing him outright in cold blood. His overblown arrogance made us choose the latter.

2 Lusat’s Set

• Location: Prison cell, Sellia Hideaway.

Lusat’s set is one of the coolest-looking mage sets in the game — who doesn’t want a globe for a head? It also has the added benefit of giving a nice buff to one of the game’s most powerful sorceries, Stars of Ruin.

Despite also having a high magic resistance (great for PvP), it comes with the pretty hefty penalty of reducing the effectiveness of all other sorceries by 15 percent. You can find it by following Sellen’s questline to Lusat’s prison cell in the enchanting crystalline cave of Sellia’s Hideaway.

1 Azur’s Glintstone Set

• Location: North of Hermit Village, Mt. Gelmir.

Another eye-catchingly magnificent piece of mage attire, Azur’s Glintstone armor was worn by one of the most powerful sorcerers in the Lands Between — it certainly looks the part. You are granted access to it after Sellen’s convoluted questline wraps up.

Sure, there’s a pretty steep FP cost attached to it, but when you’re shooting out an inexplicably powerful magical beam of death, you will find little reason to care.
